Dates: May 14-24, 2018
What you will do: participate in community-lead development, meet the incredible agents of change who make a lasting difference in their communities and join them as they push their projects forward.
What you will see: a side a Haiti that few foreigners ever get to see, travel into the remote villages way off the beaten track. Be ready for rugged mountain trails, and ocean views. Of course we will also make time to see the beautiful sites of Haiti. The old city, museums and art galleries and other hidden gems in this bustling, busy country.
Where you will stay: From hotels en-route to in-country guest-houses our accommodation will range from rustic to relaxed. In all cases the beds will be clean, the water will be pure and the food will be safe.
What you need: valid passport, availability for pre-departure training (3 sessions), and a great attitude
Trip costs: $2850. All-inclusive. Flights, travel insurance, en-route lodging and meals, all in Haiti meals, accommodation, transportation, translation, field support, local project costs and gratuities.
Purpose Of The Trip
To educate and inform. We encourage you to be ready to see what local development looks like from the level of the community. Be ready to learn.
You will also help us with community surveys on stove usage, join a build team to help place stoves into the homes of local families. Be ready to give.
Tuesday: Depart Montreal for direct flight to Port-au-Prince – Drive to Grand Guave – A history of the earthquake and rebuilding efforts as we pass by the epicentre – meet with project partners for an overview of our projects
Wednesday Building stove forms – finding access to local materials and resources – orientation to our education focus and methodology
Thursday – Shopping in the local market (an experience not to be missed!) – Building forms – Brick making
Friday – Make a meal with local families over a traditional three stone fire – Brick making – survey in the communities – Cultural orientation
Saturday – Local seminars on health – Brick making – survey in the communities
Sunday – Boat ride to a private beach – fresh caught lunch on the beach – Supper in Petit Goave
Monday – Participation with the local community in home stove building – photography project – Seminar on poverty and partnership
Tuesday – Training new stove builders in the local community on stove building – photography project – Debriefing
Wednesday – AM return to Port-au-Prince – Lunch at Observatorie for site seeing and souvenirs – Museum – supper at Latin Quarter – overnight in Port Au Prince
Thursday – AM Departure from Port-au-Prince to home
